So at cake class (there is a whole other thread about my class) the teacher made this one icing and I thought right away of how you could do it with red and white and make ribbon candy looking swirly things and flavor it peppermint for a cool holiday cake. I mentioned this and she says, "Wow you are going to do great, I can see you have a creative mind" and I say, automaticly, "Thanks, I think it comes from being an artist"
WHAT THE??? Sense when am I an artist? I wanted to slap my own face. She said, "you can tell" which I didn't understand and I had to get up and go to the bathroom to give myself a talk about bragging.
So do you feel like an artist? Apparently I do!
(I mean they sell a magazine I have 13 cards in right there in the store! hehe)

Honey, you ARE an artist. You have an artist's soul. You see the art in things that us non-artsy-fartsy types can not!! And you weren't bragging!!!

hush y'all you are making me blush!
So I didn't make a total a ss of myself then? I tried to gloss over it later. I felt like a dork.
Had cute shoes on though and that always helps.

Its all good girl! and no you didn't make an *ss of your self.
:)
I can see exactly how that conversation went and what you were thinking by the way you wrote it.
When i was at the Dr.'s getting my first eye exam and then the glasses i had made a comment about "breaking my back bending over to do Art stuff" and the Dr. was nodding his head but rolling his eyes so i shut my mouth, but I can see what you are saying, I don't think of my self as an "artist" as a label either.
13 cards in one issue is gotta be serious braggin rights in a whole nother train of thought though... :)

It's amazing what wearing cute shoes will make us do. ;) Of course you are an artist. It doesn't matter what the medium is, an artist creates.

Erin - I agree that you are an artist. Whenever anyone asks about my hobbies or when I am buying bulk items in a non- stamping related store and the store clerk asks what I am doing with all of the items I always respond that I am a 'Paper Artist'!
Your cake class sounds like a lot of fun.

BTW -- I don't wear cute shoes. I have dumb feet. I only wear comfortable shoes and they are hard to find. I guess I'm missing out in life... :-(

Compliments! I've learned (maybe now that I'm 43) to say thank you! Most people don't take the time to find out what they are good at! Creativity is a whole different way of thinking!! Sometimes I feel bad for people who don't just sit down and color in a page with crayons... but then again... I'm amazed with brain surgeons, computer IT people, garbage men and teachers... they all certain qualities that I could never understand.

you gotta find at least one pair you can wear that's pretty cute. I love wearing mine, I can't wear them for tons of walking but for short things I LOVE them. Everyone needs on really great pair of shoes.

Oh Boy we are all artists! And at my age, you say 'thank you' !!! Took me awhile but with age comes wisdom! S.
P.S. It's not difficult to be a 'computer IT person' - trust me!

I agree with what everyone says. I also wanted to add, since when calling yourself an artist meant bragging? It is what it is. You create art, therefore you're an artist. Chimpanzees throw paint on canvas and people will pay thousands of dollars for their "artwork." I wouldn't have taken what you said as bragging. It is what it is. It's a fact. It's not bragging. It's a fact. So you're an artist and you have 13 cards in Just Cards. All of the other published cardmakers in Just Cards are also artists. I don't think calling yourself an artist should be seen as bragging or given a bad connotation. I think you ought to celebrate your skills and talents and others should be happy for you (published or not) and celebrate YOU. If they're not, they're just jealous cuz yous gots the skillz, bebe!
