embossing help

When I try to use a Medallion stamp, after sprinkling on my embossing powder, I can't seem to make the image very raised off the card. Some cards that I have seen from other people have very raised image but mine does not want to grow. Any tips?

It has to be the Ultra Thick Embossing Powder-I think and have do it more than once for that medallion look.
Others may have a different suggestions.

Make sure you are using embossing powders and not Pearl-Ex powders with the heat gun.

that comes in a bottle with a fabric applicator. I just roll it on the stamp and stamp the paper. I've found the embossing gel in the bottle is much better than the inks I've used.
