I bought a copic sketch pen in flesh. Needed the color so I thought what the heck why not try it? Figured I could buy one a paycheck to get a good collection...

Anyone have suggestions for the perfect colors?

Thanks! Patty

Hey, Patty, there are quite a few Copic marker threads here if you do a search. I personally only own 5 of these all in neutrals for skin tones and shading. I've got YR00 Powder Pink, G00 Jade Green, RV42 Salmon Pink, C1 Cool Gray and E31 Brick Beige. They about $6 a pop at ArtCo. GinaK over at http://blog.ginakdesigns.com/ also does a Copic marker club if you want to collect some faster (more $$), and she has some tutorials for them too.

I was wondering why you were using jade green for skin tones and then I reread 'and shading'. Phew, I thought you were going in for monsters in a big way! :goofy:

YES, everything! Also check out this blog http://www.kiyomikrafts.com/. She puts the little Copic lids next to her cards so you can see what colors she used. I could only hope to color this good someday!

LOL, that's funny. I don't think I have ever even used that jade green color. I just got it because it was a light, and ArtCo had a slim selection that day. Too funny!

I'd check out the Dick Blick website to see what's on sale this week.
I just got a LOT of Copics during a sale....got $25 off my order and then free shipping. The backordered colors won't cost me anymore in shipping once they send those either!
They cost me around $4.20 this time.
Have fun!

I pick mine up at Hobby Lobby 4 of 5 at a time whenever they have the 25% and 30% off sales. I started with the skin white color and then pinks and greens and then blues and violets, etc. I always buy a light and a dark shade of each color. Oh and of course get the blender right away too.

Hello to all.I recently bought a set of 12 Copics in the Ciao range and this range is a lot cheaper than the normal Copics. There is not such a large range of colours as the normal ones but there is still a pretty good number. I'm thrilled to bits with mine and love the way they cover the paper.

I don't know if this helps at all, but I did a blog post of my opinions on picking Copic colors. Of course these are only my opinions, but in case it is helpful at all:

I just adore my Copics. Its really hard for me to color with anything else now.

Thank you - that is very sweet of you to say. :)

I use the Sketch. I color A LOT and ran my Caios (I started with 2 of them) out of ink pretty fast. I also like the feel of the Sketch in my hand and the numbers on the end caps are really, really helpful for finding colors. I also sometimes use the air brush system, which is designed to fit the Sketch.

But the Caios have the exact same ink and brush tip - so if you don't color as much, you might like them. They do cost less - and they are refillable. They just don't hold as much ink so you will need refill ink sooner and will need to refill more often. They don't come in as many colors as the Sketch - but there are still a lot of Caio colors.

Hope that helps??
