Good Morning everyone,

this week I am hosting a technique challenge for you to try. About a month ago, I saw the double embossing or Emboss to de-emboss technique demoed at a stamp convention. I have been having fun trying different pairs of folders. Or using the same two folders but with different cardstock and embellishments for two different looks. Here is one (http://stamp-shack.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=23295&limit=recent) card using the swiss dots and stylized flowers CB folders. Here is a second (http://stamp-shack.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=23296&cat=recent&limit=recent) card using the same folder, but different cardstock for an entirely different look. And here is the first card (http://stamp-shack.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=22846&ppuser=31) I made after I saw the demo.

My challenge to you: get out what ever machine you have that embosses and choose two folders or texture plates and create a card. Post a link here in this thread by next Friday morning (8/14) and I will put your name in the hat for a grab bag prize. If you upload a second card, you get a second chance at the prize.

If you have any questions, please post them here and I will answer for all to see. Your question may also help someone else.

Good luck and have fun. Let's see how many different combinations we get by weeks end.

I have the following members who tried the challenge this week:
Loobylou - Sarah
Inkinupstamps - Jennifer
Tojoco - Joanne
Far North - Jan
HeatherJ - Heather

You still have the rest of the evening to upload a card if you want a chance at my grab bag prize.

These are beautiful cards! And what a great challenge. I've been meaning to do these challenges since they started up again but time seems to slip away from me. I will definitely challenge myself to meet this challenge!

I would of had a go at this but sadly gave most of my embossing folders away due to lack of use....oh well maybe next weeks challenge.

You gals have all had great success with the technique. I tried three samples and am not happy with any of them. The 2nd run through the "bug" is wiping out almost all of the first impressions. I can see the Swiss dots the best, but they are not great. I will try again with heavy weight paper. Perhaps that will help. I love the look so will continue to play!

Heather...this is supposed to happen, your first image is de-embossed. You should see it in your background, but not as defined.

The bg is practically invisible though. Most samples you would never know it was done the first time. Maybe the dots will be the best one after all. :)

Heather "The bg is practically invisible though. Most samples you would never know it was done the first time. Maybe the dots will be the best one after all." You are right Heather, it does smooth out the 1st embossing ALOT. If you want the image more pronounced I find inking or sanding it before you move on to the 2nd embossing helps a lot.

Tim Holtz encourages that if you want to change the embossing on purchased pre-embossed grungeboard--run it through with the pattern of your choice.

Here is my challenge card (http://stamp-shack.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=23309&limit=recent).

Thanks so much Cheri for the inspiration!

Heather, I was disappointed in my first run throughs too because I could just barely even make out the swiss dots on my card. Then I did as Jan suggests and after running the swiss dots through, I sanded lightly. Then I embossed with my second folder (which was the swirls one) and the swirls were pronounced but the sanded dots now stand out.

Thanks for the tip about sanding ladies! I will give that a try.

Here is the card (http://stamp-shack.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=23322) I ended up making for the challenge. The dots were done first.

The set is an old SU one - Petal Prints. I thought it matched that embossing folder quite well.

(I didn't label the card with the challenge name as I don't want to be in the draw if there is one this week, as I have been so lucky as to win the last two.) I just love the idea of having the challenges!

I just made another (http://stamp-shack.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=23324) one using the same 2 folders but doing them in reversed order. I did the flowers first on this, then the dots, then lined up the flowers carefully and sent it through again. The dots stayed and the flowers really popped!

Well, it's taken me a few tries to get it "right", but here is my first successful attempt. ;) I'm definitely going to try more! :cute:

Great challenge. Helped me figure out how to use an embossing folder that I could never use before this technique.

My card is posted here (http://stamp-shack.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=23332).

Heather, after I run my cardstock thru the first folder, I lightly ink over the top of the embossing. Then I emboss with the second folder. Sometimes I ink again, sometimes I just leave it "naked"
