Need crafting/science fair advice

Nick's doing a report/project on Neptune. I was gonna buy a big styrofoam ball & 13 tiny sytrofoam balls for it's moons. Anyway,I want to cover the styrofoam w/something so it doesn't look like styrofoam. Any ideas as to what I can use. I'm thinking royal icing for styrofoam. LOL

Play dough?? I have a reciepe for home made and you could color it if you need it to be.

Why not paint Neptune blue with its moons painted yellow (which is their real color). If you use playdoh (which is a great idea) you really don't need the styrofoam balls.

I would probably have painted them (spray on??) Probably wouldn't have thought of anything else. Good luck. Love to see a pic when you finish. Don't you just LOVE these projects???

They make a paint for styrofoam. We did a solar system a few years ago -- the paint comes in tubs and comes in several colors. I probably bought it at Michaels or AC Moores. Buy a few of those foam brushes and you are in business!

We had to do something similar last year. We painted them.

Well, I went to Michael's but didn't buy anything. The 10" ball was $20! I had no idea styrofoam was so expensive. I'm probably going back today & buying it w/my 50% off coupon. Nick has to go to the Dr today (which is just down the street from Ms!) so his friend can't come over to work on it anyway.

I was thinking of something textural but didn't see any kind of "paint" for styrofoam (saw glue tho). Apparently, Neptune has rings too. I was just going to cut random circles from blue cardstock but now, I'm thinking netting might be cool. Nick really just wants Alex to come over so they can play PS3 & recite Monty Python dialog to each other. LOL
