something is eating up all my green tomatoes over night. I've put up cages and foil and ribbons on sticks and nothing is scaring it off. I've lost 20 tomatoes to what ever it is. It only likes the green ones too. Anyone have any ideas?

Check for hornworms. They are green with a kind of horn on one end...not sure if it's the head or tail. I do know they are u-g-l-y! They usually eat the leaves but they will also eat the young tomatoes. Other animals that eat green tomatoes are woodchucks, deer, and squirrels.

Wow, they did do a number on your tomatoes Christie. I know squirrels like my tomatoes, but they usually take them off the vine! I find the uneaten portion of the tomato littered in the yard. The deer ate a bunch last year too, so this year, I planted them in a different bed and caged it off. I do find worms on my vines too. Sometimes, those worms are hard to spot.

My tomatoes did that last year and i never did figure it out. But I only do red tomatoes and they ate those.

Now I have a yellowing leaf problem and i have no idea what that is :(

I know for a fact it's not worms...there are teeth marks so I figure it must be a squirrel or a raccoon. I went and bought some chicken wire today to put around them in hopes that it will help.

Are the yellow leaves at the bottom of the plant?? We had that problem & it's a SOIL issue. The water from rain or watering bounces off the ground & onto the 'maters. We mulched them BIG time the next year & didn't plant that year. Well, we go out of the habit (Scott's the only one who eats them & he will only eat them on salads & tacos) and haven't planted them since. LOL

Yellowing leaves is usually a Ph problem.

Christie, it looks like you got racoons!

yesterday i went out and bought chicken wire. i put that around the plants and covered the tops with sheets and clothes pins. whatever it was still go in there and ate almost all of them up....so frustrating and i give up.

Rats or squirrels. I'd put traps out.

And you know a squirrel is just a rat with a bushy tail.

we've seen it running off twice tonight and it didn't land in any of the four traps or the four sticky traps.........maybe in the morning he will be stuck or dead!
