I was just noodling around food recipes and came across a recipe for 1 Cup Slice, seems to be a dessert type dish. Then I saw a link to a 5 cup slice that was very similar in ingredients. Is this something I have just missed out on hearing about? I think of a slice as well, a slice of something, like a slice of cake or meatloaf. I have never hear of Slice being a food item.

Can someone help me out? Kind of clueless here!

Incidentally, it sounds good, but coconut features prominently so I won't be making it anytime soon since David does NOT like coconut!

that's a new term for me, too. (My DH doesn't do coconut either!)

I looked at that website and see they have 31 recipes for Slices. I am wondering if it is a European or Aussie thing. I saw a few recipes using Anzac biscuits and I have never heard of them, and muesli, not generally a term we use in the States. Anyway, this is what I found from that site. Learn something new every day!

It's important to have slice recipes in your repertoire. A portable baked good, slices are perfect for a family picnic and school snacks. Double the recipe and freeze pre-cut slice squares. Perfect to defrost for unexpected visitors. Or pop a frozen square in a lunch box - it'll help keep everything cool, and defrost in time for lunchtime eating!
For a substantial school-time snack, opt for a muesli or nut slice. Classic and ever-popular slices are jelly slice, vanilla slice, chocolate caramel slice, brownies and the wickedly tasty Mars Bar slice. Summer fruits like strawberry, raspberry, apricot, peach and plum add a wonderfully fresh, sweet and tart quality to slices.
Turn off the oven and try uncooked slices like marshmallow slice, lemon slice, and chocolate slice. Simply mix together, push into a tin, and refrigerate. Get the kids involved in making these easy recipes. After all, slice is nice!

you girls are funny!. A slice is a type of dessert dish. It is not a cake and not a cookie. Usually it has a cookie type base, then a softer topping. I have whole cook books of slice recipes. I make them in a pan that is about 8" x 13". My favourite slice is lattice (http://www.bestrecipes.com.au/recipe/cream-cheese-lattice-slice-L554.html) cheesecake slice, or chocolate caramel slice (http://www.bestrecipes.com.au/recipe/chocolate-caramel-slice-L5984.html).

Now that you say that, Sarah, I remember seeing a recipe for "butter tart slice" when I lived out west. We would have called them "squares".

ah, now that makes sense "squares" is how they are served. I was pondering what else you guys would call a slice dish

I am wondering what this is comparable to for us too. I'll have to take a closer look at your recipes.
