I'm participating in a swap with a few of my stamping friends and we need to use alcohol inks. I have no clue what these are and what type of techniques they'll work best with. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Teresa

Watch this video called Irresistable: http://crafttvweekly.com/player.html?wid=65, It will give you an idea about what they are. There are so many ways to use them.

the ones i have are from Ranger, and they are a liquid ink in a bottle. so the techniques i know for them involve creating backgrounds to stamp on.http://http://www.rangerink.com/product_adirdkalcoholinks.html
if you click that link it shows you the inks that i have, i have a few things in the gallery that say alcohol inks backgrounds on them.
I know there are other co.'s that make them too, but i do not see them sold locally so, i don't remember the names of them.

The link Tami shared is a really good tutorial. Just be sure to use glossy cardstock. I also use Ranger's Blending Solution (not rubbing alcohol or anything else) to "spread" the alcohol inks, so that I have a "marble finish." Go easy on the Blending Solution though. What you don't want to do is to dilute the inks so much, you have no color left on your glossy cardstock. I put two or three dabs of the alcohol ink on my white felt pad, that's attached to a "daubing tool." That daubing tool is like a wood mounting block (like for rubber stamps), and it has the hook part of velcro attached to one side of the block. That's where you stick your felt pad to. Then, add two or three drops of two coordinating colors on your felt pad. Then, add two small squirts of blending solution. Move quickly and daub your ink on the glossy cardstock. Be sure you protect the surface underneath. Once alcohol inks get on your table or work surface, it stains (just about permanently). Let the inked cardstock dry completely. Then, you can stamp over it with Archival ink or with StazOn (I prefer to stamp with StazOn).

Ladies,

Thank you so much for all of this great information. I'm hoping to find some Alcohol Inks tonight when I am running errands. In additional to using AI in this swap we need to use a folding technique and it must be a floral/spring theme. I'm really going outside my safety zone here but I'm going to give it a whirl!

Thanks again.

Hi Teresa,
Alcohol Inks are really fun. I have several cards in my gallery using them. You can use the stuff on any nonporus surface. Potopaper doesn't work too well but glossy cardstock is great. You can use it on aluminum foil, flashing tape, acetate, anything like that. They are very easy and very fun. Here are the ones that I did using AI's:

You can use rubbing alcohol or the blending solution to clean your up your mess!

Stacey-The Ranger Company recommends using the blending solution to remove AI from your hands and the craft sheet.

Teresa, I hear that some JoAnn's are going to start stocking AI...if they don't have it you might want to head to a LSS or HL. The suggested video is the best but here is a picture tutorial too...

Lots of great AI work is in the Shack gallery you might do a search.

Thanks ladies!
I was totally surprised when it actually dried on the mat, (and of course it was the pitch black haha)
