Yes, you need to pay to be a full member.

Such a nasty message, eh? This means that in order to access all areas of the website (swap board, chatroom, templates, and uploading to the gallery), you will need to purchase a membership. The membership thing is relatively new and was needed in order to offset the costs of our dedicated server and our swap board programming costs. The membership fee also allows us to offer more features such as the upcomming video classes and of course, fun things like the MP3 player and arcade :).

Of course, membership is not required to view the gallery and to post messages in any of our 'Shack Talk' forums.
