My friend found out today that she's pregnant. Problem is, she has an IUD, and this pregnancy is a complete surprise. She has managed not to get pregnant while having the IUD for seven years, until now. Tomorrow, she'll go in for her ultrasound to see where the fetus is. If it's too close to the IUD, it may result in a miscarriage once they've removed the IUD. She has to have the IUD removed, regardless, asap.
Her husband is not able to go with her to the ultrasound (he's also active duty military). She's asked me to step in and be with her during her ultrasound. Of course, I'll be there. No questions asked. She's also my coworker. Her boss and my boss know what's going on, and they've excused both of us to make sure she's going to be OK.
Please pray for her and the safety of her baby. Even though she was completely caught off guard by this pregnancy, she doesn't want anything to happen to her baby. Her name is Becky. From the dates, test, etc., she's about eight weeks along.
Thank you so much for your support.
**UPDATE* We are through with the ultrasound. The IUD did not penetrate the gestational sac. However, they have discovered that the fetus did not develop at all. I guess this happens in one in 30 pregnancies (so, quite common). She is still technically 'pregnant' until her body flushes out the sac (in a period). She will not need a DNC. They are going to remove the IUD she has, and replace it with one with hormones (I think it's the Merena (sp?)) So she'll have double-protection, since it's an IUD with the hormones found in birth control pills.
Thank you for all of your prayers. She is breathing a heavy sigh of relief for two reasons. There was no fetus, so really, nothing to mourn or be sad about. And, the IUD didn't penetrate the sac, so if there was a viable fetus, they could've removed the IUD without problems. Thanks again! Hugs to all,
