Re: vet insurance can sometimes be .....
I have insurance for my cats. I deal with 2 different companies, mainly because the one company was the only one that would take my "triplets" who were 11 years old at that time. The cut off point seems to be 10 years old and they made an exception because we were buying 3 policies and none had had any serious illnesses up to that point.
However, they do NOT pay for teeth cleaning or dentistry, vaccinations, yearly physical exams, declawing, spay/neuter or vaccinations. They feel that these are things the person should be prepared for as a pet owner. I'm not quite sure I agree with all of that.
We basically get nothing from that company until there is a catastrophic illness. One of the "triplets" needed surgery for a tumor, survived the operation but then died of kidney failure due to age. The company DID come through for us then and we were able to recover ALMOST half ( about $2500) of what we spent, which was quickly spent on his burial in a pet cemetery. So we were just about breaking even.
The other company we deal with for our younger cats, does pay something toward yearly physical exams, bloodwork, vaccinations, declawing or spay/neuter ( you can choose one of those) but it all involves which policy you choose. Of course, the more you want covered, the more the policy. However, you never seem to get back even half of the vet's bill.
So, considering all of this, we are busy flipping coins in order to decide if the insurance is worth keeping from either company!
