had to say goodbye to a staff member. She had worked at our agency for more than 20 yrs and a couple of months ago she had to retire on disability. She had just turned 47. I knew when we had her retirement party this day would be sooner than we were ready for. She had lupus, she was on dialysis and last week she got septic and had multiorgan failure. When I saw at the hospital I knew it was over. It has been a hard week for our staff. In the nearly 30 years I have been there, this is the first staff person we have lost. She worked in kidney failure for months but when I would ask her if she was ok to be there-she would say, I am ok, I feel a little better today. Always smiled. Keep her family, friends and co-workers in your heart for a little bit if you can. Her first grandchild is due in a few weeks. She and her husband were so excited, their oldest girl married a couple of years ago and she wanted a grandchild. She was a good mom, loved family and her dogs!
