Did you ever hear of this?
Yesterday I bought a new shredder... it's not too big, says medium weight on the box. Fellowes is the brand. I was reading the instructions...it says to oil with vegetable oil. did you ever hear of that?

Interesting! You would think WD40 or something.

Nope. I guess I didn't read the directions with mine. I didn't know I was supposed to oil it. Ooops.....

Here's a chuckle for you. One time when I got a new shredder, I accidently shredded the directions to the machine. I was too busy shredding my papers, that I didn't notice I had the instructions to the machine in with my papers I was shredding!

That's funny, Shelley....but I can see how it would happen. This one says to oil it (just on the top part where you insert the paper) each time you empty the shred basket.

Huh, that's odd, we have a Fellowes at work and we had to get a bottle of special oil for it. Granted it's probably going to last forever and ours is definitely heavy duty. It was 300 some odd dollars but then we shred a lot!

Re: Did you ever hear of this?
Oh, wow...mine was "only" fifty bucks, but I'm tired of buying the cheaper, smaller ones and then having to replace them so often. I would have used either wd40 or sewing machine oil, but it specified vegetable oil. Hope Mazola is ok, cuz that's what I used! Says it's guaranteed for 1 year, so this time I'm keeping that paperwork!

Like I said it's in our office and we shred a LOT! And it can shred about 15 pages at a time, cds, credit cards. I think we have gotten our money's worth out of it. Funny, it will do a cd but it doesn't like xrays.
