    Re: My sweet dog...

Just got home from the Vet. My hubby has been there 3 or 4 X today checking in. So at 5 we were able to pick him up, he has a bulging disc in his neck and lots of arthritis. He is going to be crated for a few days and with lots of meds. He also has to be on diet which will be hard with those sad puppy dog eyes (hound dog eyes of basset). She thinks he maybe will respond to rest and meds. He will see a specialist soon but for now she is hopeful. We got him a new harness to walk him with to take pressure off his neck.
She says they carry 60% of their weight in the front and with his added weight (just like my knees) it is too much and has caused wear.

I am very hopeful and I so appreciate everyone's kinds words and thoughts. You all are the BEST!

It will be great to have Shelter home. Lots of love and snuggles will help the mend. Good luck with those puppy dog eyes. ( I have two children that have really big eyes and they know how to play them!)

Poor little dude. I know that back pain is no fun and taking off weight is hard no matter who needs to do it. Be strong, mom. Does he like carrots? That makes a good crunchy low calorie treat. My guys LOVE carrots. And apparently celery too, if you take the strings out!

Oh boo!! I have one of those in my neck and let me tell you...it's not fun at all Maybe you can put him no some special food to help him lose weight. That might help too.

So glad to hear Shelter is home...that makes things so much better!

Dang, why does it seem we are all aging at the same time?

Glad to hear he's home and on the mend. Please keep us up to date on his progress too. Diet and all that really helps. My 18 YO kitty was not doing well and the last ditch was a diet and exercise and I swear, she is like a whole new cat! She went from barely getting around to running and chasing chipmunks in the yard.( She still can't catch them..LOL)
It is REALLY hard to resist those big old eyes asking for treats but what a difference it makes for them.
