Thread: Cricut questions

  1. Cricut questions

I'm contemplating purchasing a Cricut. What models would you recommend (or not) and where would you purchase? How about supplies or it? I'm SO confused!

    Re: Circuit questions

i don't have a cricut, so i can't make any recommendations. but i do have a silhouette and highly recommend that. the big difference is cartridges vs individual downloads. i love that i can just buy what i want and not pay for a bunch of things i don't need.

I bought my cricut way back when there was onlyu the personal (smaller one) and I like it, but if I were buying now I'd get the bigger one just so you can have more size options

    Re: Circuit questions

There are a bunch of different cricut machines.

The cricut mini cutter , you use your computer

    http://www.cricut.com/Shopping/detai...-363-1715.aspx

I don't have this machine. I don't know anything about this machine, since it's a newer machine compared to the other machines that have been out in the market longer. I think you use your computer to use the machine.

The other machine that I found

    http://www.cricut.com/Shopping/produ...ssion-210.aspx

I do have this machine, however, I'm ashamed to say that it's still in the box yet to be opened.

However, there was a smaller version of this machine when it first came out, that I do have and have used.

    I found it here:

    http://www.etsy.com/listing/16643390...earch_type=all

From what I could find I can't see that this machine is still sold or manufactured. It's the original machine that came out. I don't know if it's sold in stores or not.

So since the original machine may not be manufactured, cricut came out with an Expression and Expression 2. I'm not sure what the difference is between the two of them. My guess is that more features were added to the Expression 2.

As Cindi mentioned, the difference between the original cricut and the Expression is that you can cut bigger size items. Which is why I got the expression.

I found this link to help you understand the difference.

    http://stamping.thefuntimesguide.com...ut_machine.php

In order to use the machines, you need to purchase cartridges to use the machine.

I have given you this link to show you the cartridges:

    http://cartridgelibrary.com/category/cartridges/

Just do the drop down menu on the cricut cartridges and it will show you the cartridges. Now some of the those cartridges are retired. So the retired ones are harder to find, and if you do locate them on Ebay , they could be rather pricey.

See if there are any cartridges that you are interested in first, before even purchasing the cricut machine, to see if it's worth the investment.

When you click on the cartridge, a box will show up and show you what this cartridge will cut for images or fonts (if you are looking at an alphabet)

I have given you another link:

    http://www.mycutsearch.com/

This link shows you to you can do a search for a particular item , and then it will show you all the cartridges with that item you are looking for.

For example I plugged in sun.

    This is what came up,

    http://www.mycutsearch.com/copper/th...arch&keywords=

This shows you all the cartridges that have a sun

Then you just click on whatever cartridge comes up too see if that is what you are looking for.

I hope I have answered your question. If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask.

    Re: Circuit questions

I have 2, the smaller one and then the expression. I like the expression best. You do need a cartridge and that can get pricey. You can cut a variety of materials and with cricut pens you can outline or draw the shapes too.

What Angie said about the silhoutte -cut what you want no cartridge to buy and some of the stamp makers like Gina K offer cut files either free or for a very low price. I have considered getting one but have been waiting to see what else will come out.

All of the stamps and dies now it is overwhelming.

    Re: Circuit questions

you can actually make a cut for any stamp with the silhouette. there's a way to stamp the image, scan it, and cut it. it's pretty nifty.

Thank you so much for all of this great information. I hadn't thought about the Silhouette, Angie, but I'm now researching that as well. Thank you!
What I am really wanting to do is to create some home décor items - I've been following a few Upper Case Living demonstrators on FB and started thinking that if I had a Cricut (or now Silhouette) I could perhaps create some of their projects myself. I gotta say that while I have no need for one of these machines, the Silhouette does sound pretty cool.
