Ethan slept through the night and this morning he's not acting itchy or painful. The bites look bad though. They have the white blisters they get. :(

He is acting totally normal though. He's a truck this kid, he only cried while they were still on him last night, once we got him cleaned off he never cried again.

He might be a bit more fussy than usual, hard to tell.

Awww, those look like they itch. Better keep some caladryle(have no idea how to spell that) lotion on them to keep the itching down. Maybe give him some more benadryle today too. I still think he needs ice cream!!

Poor baby boy! I hate fire ants!! They hurt like the dickens and leave those sores too. I agree w/ the Benadryl or tylenol or something just to make him feel better even though it sounds like he's a He-Man Boy!! :)

I put some itch cream on a lot of them, not the fingers though, his fingers are always in his mouth.

He has some on his face too, it's very sad, they swarmed his hand and arm so he stuck it in his mouth to suck on it because of pain and they were all all over his face and IN his mouth. I can't see any blisters in his mouth, but I bet they did bite him in there. Brian thought it was dirt so he didn't race over, I mean, kids eat dirt, it's gross but you deal. And of course he didn't cry because I'm not sure he can feel pain? Anyhow when Brian saw they were ants he jumped in the pool with him and got a bunch off then brought him in.

We had to keep digging them out of his mouth! There were even some in his diaper, but they didn't bit him there.

this hand is the worst part.

I do'nt know why he's not all itchy and in pain but I thank God.

OUCH! Poor baby. That looks painful. Keep an eye on his temp. Sometimes those things can get infected and give them a temp.

Oh Erin. Those pictures took my breath away. How horrible! Can you get someone to come out and exterminate them? Don't know much about fire ants, except that I hope I never see one! Nancy

You can kill every one in your yard and have them back a week later! they suck. We killed those ones. we go out every so often and kill all we can.

stupid invasive ants.

Wherever you live, you will have them soon enough, they are spreading north.

another night of sleeping through, the bites are still blisters but a little less red. He's still not itching or anything. I tells ya, you wouldn't know he's bitten if you didn't see the actual bites. He's acting totally fine.

Oh Erin

I just read an article in our local newspaper about fire ants. They are making their way around the US....sometimes by accidental means. One of the malls near me had a load of mulch spread in a flower bed near the entrance to one of the stores, and the mulch was full of fire ants. Seems the mulch came from Florida. Also read it takes about 15 days for the bites to heal.

There are safe products to use on the ground to kill the ants. Check with your local nursery, farm supply store or maybe even Wal-Mart. My husband puts down granules on our yard and in our mulch so that when it rains they dissolve slowly and keep the pests away for a longer period of time.
