Well I had to take Jiggs to the specialist today. He has been having mega skin issues. Right now he has the spots all over that are flaky and the hair has fallen out. I've been fighting skin issuses with him for years now and fianlly bit the bullet and took him to the specialist. I almost fainted when they told me the amount. It was $700 :err: That costs more then taking my moles off at my dermatolgist! He told me he thinks it's either a food allery or his thyroid. I had to buy a perscribtion dog food, which was $47 and then on top of that he had a mild ear infection; which I didn't know. Ok, now I have to do good at the craft fair to pay for this! Ok, i'm done venting. I love my doggie like he is my baby, so what ever it takes!!!

Ouch! Wishing you great luck and good sales! These little creatures are part of our family and we have to take care of them.

We have a little toy poodle named Monet that my dh calls a "Dog Person." She was recently very ill with a terrible stomach thing that small dogs can be susceptible to. It starts out like a tummy upset but can progress to internal bleeding and death if not treated.

When you have kids, some instinct usually lets you know if they are really sick. It's the same with pets. I took her to the emergency vet at 2:00 am when this happened. They said she would have died before morning if I had not brought her in.

4 days and $900 later, she was well enough to come home and has completely recovered now.

Ok First I'm not a vet so this is only advice...

You don't need that dog food! When we had Hanna with all of her skin issues they tried to get me to buy that food too. I could not do it. I bought the lamb and rice food from Costco. For the most part that did the trick. Most of the time it is the corn and wheat that cause the skin problems. I did use the special shampoo and bathed her twice a week then once a week an oat meal bath.

Well I'm glad I'm not alone. To top it off, I go outside a little bit ago and now I have a flat tire!! Like I can afford to replace that now!!

Yikes! It is amazing what the vet costs. I wonder if pet ins. is worth it. I have thought about it but maybe I should look into it.

My Dad's wife's cat had major issues and rather than pay the expensive prescription cat food, they fed her vennison (no, neither of them hunt, they had to go to a special butcher to get it). Also, after the bills and then a surgery began adding up, they picked up pet insurance that was, I think $50 a month. But, if you are willing to pay whatever to help your doggie, then maybe that $50 a month would be easier on your pocketbook rather than shelling out large chunks at once plus the expensive food. Just a thought. DH's cat needed surgery a couple of years ago and that came in about $500 plus the meds. I remember how much that hurt our pocketbook. Hopefully, your dog gets better soon and you are able to figure out the least costly method that provides the best health. And a flat tire to boot?! Awwwwww....
HUGS!!!

Poor Jiggs. Poor Christie. That's a lot of money when he's only just guessing about the cause of the problem. I hope Mr. Jiggs gets better.
