Poll: Are your kids off school for Columbus Day?

I found it interesting that Vicki said her kids don't have school today. Our schools here have classes. So it just made me wonder....how many of your schools don't have classes on Columbus Day?

Illinois - some have even made it into a 5 day weekend.... teachers conferences last Thrusday and Friday, off today Monday!!!

School is in here in MD. Friends in GA have the day off though.

School in Davidson County,NC. Last Monday they had a teacher's workday. Don't understand and never have understood the scheduling factor.

We had a 4 day weekend - always do the first full weekend of Oct. It's Teacher's Institute on Friday and Columbus Day on Monday. I used to work in Terre Haute, Indiana, and it wasn't a "holiday" over there like here in Illinois. My kids would be out of school, banks closed, and no mail here at home, but at work everything was open as usual.

Kinda weird! LOL!

We always have several days off in mid-October for something called MEA (Minnesota Educators Association--or something like that!) so that's probably why they don't also have today off.

My son will have Thurs-Monday, OCtober 18-22 off from school--the teachers will all be in Workshops etc.

School is IN here in Florida. The courthouse is open, but the PO and the banks are not. Go figure?? I'm at work. My boss wouldn't let me have the day off. LOL (DH is a tough one) He did let me take Friday off after I came in and did the bookwork. I was dog sick and he still made me do the stinkin' bookwork. Can you believe that junk? HA!

When I was in school we never had to go on columbus day, but now they do!

No school here. In fact, my DS just brought me some Chicken Tortilla Soup for lunch since I have to work.

how can your post office be open? I thought all the post offices around the country always followed the same schedule??

Mine are in college and it was in session today. DH had off though, he works for a bank.

Well tonight at a meeting, mydogstinks2 told me our PO WAS CLOSED.....I didn't lie on purpose...lol I guess I forgot to check our mail on Saturday!!! :)

School was out and I had the day off of court so I went to work instead. Go figure. I have to go back to court tomorrow, hopefully it will be the last day.

We didn't have school (never have had school on Columbus day) but StL DID have school. I never would have known but there is a wildcat busdrivers strike so it was on the news. I just assumed EVERYONE had CD off. Odd.

We have 2 more half days off this month for teachers conferences & "school enrichment day". What the heck is that???

Our kids had off Friday for an inservice day for the teachers and Monday for the holiday. I had off too, since I work at the bank.
