I think I remember this is what they do when they are ready to pass on. He is 7 or 8 so I think he has lead a pretty long life for a guinea pig.

Here's my Max with his Santa hat on at Christmas LOL

Aww, Sherri. I don't know much about guinea pigs but I think you may be right. I hope that Max will have a peaceful passing and you will find peace in knowing that you gave him a wonderful life.

Yikes, I never heard this before, but it is sad if true. You will have to decide where to put him in your yard. - Nancy

I'm sorry to hear about Mr. Max. It sounds like you've had him for a very long time. I didn't know that guinea pigs lived that long. (At least ours never did). :(

I read on the internet they are considered "old" if they are over 4 years old so he is old... He is still hanging on. Still wont' eat. I just went into check on him and he is hiding in his igloo shaking, the poor thing. I can't stand to watch him like this but nothing more I can do ....

Sherri, I don't know too much about guinea pigs but I sure do feel for you and your children. Truly, I do!

I remember when my middle son, Matt, had a hampster that died, we had a funeral in the back yard of our house in Tennessee where we lived at that time. It was pouring down rain and we dug a hole and buried him. My mom and dad were visiting at the time and my dear sweet father held an umbrella over Matt and his departed hampster as we read from the prayer book. My mom even wept! (She'd probably chuckle a bit today over crying over a hampster, but the day was very solemn and we were all truly sad.)

All of this to say, I think you little guinea pig has had a wonderful life and as sad as it is (AND IT IS SAD) you have to be happy for the little guy.

I sure hope he doesn't suffer.

I'm such an emotional wreck over our pets.

He is still hanging on but I really think it will be over by tomorrow. His eyes are barely open and he is laying on his side but he is still breathing. I hate going in there now to check on him but i have to.

Monday update on Max, I just checked on him and he peeked his little head up at me. So he is still hanging on. Still not eating, no longer shaking.

He has had a long life

I'm sorry you have to go through this Sherri. I hope he gets through it and rebounds. We had guinea pigs when the boys were little but we gave them away when they stopped caring for them properly.

Sending you a hug.

I have often thought about getting rid of him as the kids only looked after him for about 2 weeks but I just couldn't bare to get rid of him. He is so cute and loves to cuddle. lol

Oh I'm so sad for him. I miss my Max as in my screen name. I had a Peruvian guinea pig named Kasha, then I became allergic to her but I still petted her & stuff. She was so pretty. My dad used to tell little kids visiting us that she was a baby Wookie.
hugs for your Max
