I made the yummiest dinner tonight. Just thought I'd share my recipe for
STEAK NORMANDY
preheat oven to 350F
Ingredients
2lb chuck or skirt steak
1 onion
1 clove garlic
2 to 3 rashers bacon
2 tablespoons flour
1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
1 dessert spoon sugar
2 tablespoons tomato sauce or puree
2 tablespoons vinegar
1 cup beef stock
salt and pepper
Method
cut steak into 1 inch squares, combine flour and sugar in a bag, coat the steak in the flour mixture.
peel and slice onion, line bottom of casserole dish with them. Sprinkle with finely chopped garlic
place meat on top, pour sauces, vinegar and stock over.
let stand (marinate) for several hours, or overnight
top with bacon strips, season with salt and pepper.
cover and bake in moderate oven for 90 minutes.
remove cover for last 20 minutes to crisp bacon.
I sometimes make dumplings and place ontop of the casserole for the last 15 minutes.
Dumplings
sift together 1 cup self-raising flour, and 1/2 teasponn salt
rub in 1 tablespoon butter
add 1/2 cup milk, stirring quickly to make a soft sticky dough
drop dumpling dough by heaped tablespoons full ontop of hot bubbling casserole
serve with baked potatoes, corn cobs and peas
