I saw the doc Fri for my 3 month follow up after being diagnosed with diabetes in May. My A1C (3 month average blood sugar level) was 7.8 back in May, and now in Sept it is down to 6.6. I've still got a ways to go, but I'm heading the right direction. Normal is different numbers depending on the lab and school of thought. Some say normal is below 6.5, but others say it is less than 6. I'm striving for less than 6! I've lost about 25 pounds so far, and I'm dilligently counting my carbs and testing my blood sugar every day. I know I'll get there!

That's sounds great Mary. And that's a lot of weight your losing. How are you doing that?

I am doing it by watching my carb intake, and eating lots and lots of veggies. I'm also avoiding white bread, pasta, potatoes and rice. My dinner plate used to include a lot of those white things! Now my dinner plate looks like 2/3 salad or veggies a small meat portion and a very small portion or no starches. I've never been a big fruit eater, and fruit is all carbs, so that hasn't really been an issue. I'm probably eating the same amount of fruits as before, just once in awhile.

So happy to hear that things are going in a good direction.
I know from my job experience that this can be a very tough
thing to handle at times, but a great attitude goes a long way.
Keep up the good work, and pretty soon it won't seem like work
just a daily routine. ;)

Around of applause to you. I am just starting to watch what I eat, and looking up and charting is a real pain, so I can fully understand how much work you put into this. I am trying -it is only my second day. I weigh 191, so I'll let you know in a week if I am actually losing. I have weighed this for 10 years. Again Great work on your part. - Nancy
