Thread: Canning Venison

  1. Canning Venison

I am going to be canning deer meat today. My mom and whole family have always canned it in a traditional canner for 3 hours after it comes to a boil. After reading online I only see that it recommends a pressure canner. I gave mine away because I didn't like it. Have you ever canned deer meat in a regular canner, and if so how long did you cook it? TIA

I've only canned it in a pressure canner.

Well, I have the last 14 quarts in, so that is a total of 28 for today. I cooked them for three hours per my Mom and Aunt's directions. Looks and smells yummy.

MIL uses a pressure canner but I am sure you can do it both ways.
